January 31, 2024 -Miltonvale Park and Milton Community Hall

Coffee – Visit neighbors each Monday and Friday from 10 -11 a.m. at the Milton Hall. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available by donation of coin or treats. Please drop in, no pre-registration is required.

Seniors Fitness Classes with Michele Gallant - at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays. They focus on balance and flexibility and are lots of fun! Cost $6. If you need more info, please email admin@miltonvalepark.com. Class is cancelled if schools (Bluefield family) are cancelled or delayed for weather-related reasons.

NEW - ADDITIONAL CLASSES - Yoga with Leone – Tuesdays - 9 a.m. Building Blocks of Yoga (mat) & 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga. $6 Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others at the hall. Leone is planning to offer a FRIDAY yoga class on the 2nd floor at the hall, beginning in Feb. 2 (Weather permitting!). She will hold a mat class at 9 a.m. and yoga from a chair class at 10:30. The Friday classes are also being supported by Central Region Sport and Recreation Council. Suggested donations are $6 for Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others.  Contact LightLivingWithLeone@gmail.com if you have questions about yoga. We have several mats at the hall if you would like to try yoga, but do not have one of your own. NEW TIMES to book a slot! Lily Forsythe, a Registered Acupuncturist, will present small group Acupuncture Sessions on Mondays at 5:30, 5:45 and 6 p.m. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to sign up for a time slot to try acupuncture. Free for Miltonvale Park residents and $5 for others. MiltonMVPs.

Do you like to sing? The Milton Hall hosts singers on Monday evenings from 7-8 p.m. for a casual and fun singing group. Class is full. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to be on the waitlist.

January 31 (Today!) is the deadline to buy tickets for the next 50-50 twice-monthly draw. You can buy tickets at the hall-or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com until midnight. $3 each or 2/$5.

The Community Meal on Thursday, Feb, 1 is full. For those who pre-registered and received confirmation, pick ups are from 5-5:45 and eat-in is at 6 p.m. Thanks to the Island Community Food Security Program and all our volunteers!

There will be no Planning Board meeting scheduled for February.

The session is about 90 minutes and will start after lunch at 12:30. Participants receive a certificate of completion.

NEW – More square dancing!  Learn to Square Dance -Tuesdays at 2 p.m. (No class on Feb 6) continues Feb. 13. The Milton Community Hall will be holding their annual general meeting, Tues., Feb. 20, storm date Feb 27 at 7 p.m. Adult residents of Miltonvale Park are all members of the non-profit, Milton Community Hall, Inc, and are invited to attend the meeting to learn about events of the past year and plans for 2024. NEW - Book Club – We have several copies of Michelle Good’s book Five Little Indians. If you would like to borrow one and join in on a discussion – please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090, and we will pick a time that works for the readers.

The hall and the municipality are currently organizing a number of other events and activities for the winter – and hope to be announcing other dates as they get finalized: book club meetings, Reconciliation Speaker, Concert for Black History Month, snowshoe outing,), and an Unconscious Bias Workshop (TENTATIVE time might be a Wednesday morning -If you are interested - does this work for you?) … along with more events through the Milton MVP Project! If you have suggestions for speakers or would like to be involved in any of these events, please reach out to the Council or the hall.

Community Garden – The Council will be establishing a Community Garden on land opposite the Milton Community Hall, which the family of the late Robert Hooper is generously letting the municipality use. If you are interested in being involved, please let the Council office know at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090. We have purchased a greenhouse, and are looking forward to the growing season! We are still working on details -and would love to get community members involved!

Air Fryer – We now have an air fryer for Miltonvale Park seniors to borrow to try out. Please contact MiltonCommunityHall@gmail.com to get your name on the waiting list to borrow it for approximately a week, or call 902-566-3154.

The Municipality has 6 pairs of adult snow shoes available to lend out. Contact the Council Office if you would like to arrange to borrow them.

There ARE a lot of Seniors events - which is because the municipality and hall have been awarded some seniors grants... and they need to be wrapped up by the end of March!  If you are interested in other activities for different ages,  the hall has funding through the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being to (in a nutshell)- bring joy, teach life skills and build community.

Concert -There will be a free concert (donations will be accepted). on Friday, January 26 from 7-8:30 (Storm date Saturday, Jan 27 at 2 p.m. This Friends for Friends Concert features newcomers to PEI who would like to give back with a performance of classical music featuring, violinist and conductor Tzu-Cheng Wang, who was nominated for Holland College Musician of the Year and whose album “Hello PEI” was nominated for the 2023 Music PEI Award for Instrumental recording of the year.  He will be bringing an Erhu, is a Chinese two-stringed bowed musical instrument, more specifically a spike fiddle, which may also be called a Southern Fiddle, and is sometimes known in the Western world as the Chinese violin or a Chinese two-stringed fiddle. NEW - REGISTRATION OPEN! The next Community Meal is scheduled for Thursday, Feb, 1 with the final meal box giveaway scheduled for Feb 22.  We are tentatively planning ham and potato scallop. The NADA protocol promotes a calm and clear-headed state, harmonizes your nervous system, improves resiliency, reduces cravings (food, smoking), relieves stress and emotional trauma, minimizes withdrawal symptoms and improves sleep. The intent is to do a series of these classes for the group.  These sessions are part of the Milton MVP project.

The Island Community Food Security Program has provided funding for six meals and two food box giveaways the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park, with cooperation from the Milton Community Hall, is providing 50 food boxes (approximate value $35) for local residents. As there are a limited number of food boxes, we hope that we will reach people for whom this will make a difference. Miltonvale Park residents will have priority.  There will be a food box giveaway (meat, milk, vegetables, butter, cheese…) on Saturday, January 13 with pick up from 10-11:30 a.m.  Delivery can be provided within Miltonvale Park if needed.  STORM DATE, if required, will be Sunday, Jan. 14 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. ONE application per household. Thursday, November 9, 2023 - For residents of the Miltonvale Park area

The Island Community Food Security Initiative is funding six community meals for residents and seniors in need before the end of March, 2024. We will be using local foods where possible, and hope these meals can ease some of the stress families and individuals may be facing during the winter. The meals will be eat-in or can be taken out. The 1st meal will be a Beef Stew Supper with dessert at the Milton Community Hall on Thursday, November 9.  Pick up will be from 5-5:45 p.m. with an eat-in option at 6 p.m. Deliveries can be available for those who need it within Miltonvale Park. There are 125 free meals available and preference will be given to Miltonvale Park residents. Thursday, November 9, 2023 - For residents of the Miltonvale Park area

The Island Community Food Security Initiative is funding six community meals for residents and seniors in need before the end of March, 2024. We will be using local foods where possible, and hope these meals can ease some of the stress families and individuals may be facing during the winter. The meals will be eat-in or can be taken out. The 1st meal will be a Beef Stew Supper with dessert at the Milton Community Hall on Thursday, November 9.  Pick up will be from 5-5:45 p.m. with an eat-in option at 6 p.m. Deliveries can be available for those who need it within Miltonvale Park. There are 125 free meals available and preference will be given to Miltonvale Park residents.
