Christmas Craft Fair - Saturday, November 13, 2021

The Milton Community Hall is delighted to announce the return of our Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. There will be a canteen, door prizes, and a 50-50 draw along with lots of local crafters. Admission is $3 and includes a ticket for door prizes.
We will keep a close eye to any changes in regulations from the Chief Public Health Office but currently expect that everyone will need to be fully vaccinated and wear masks throughout the day.
We hope to be able to provide another super experience for sellers and shoppers. The vendor tables are sold out - but you would like to be on our wait list, please complete the online registration form.

Free Concert: Le Tour de mon jardin: Songs and stories from my Francophone roots

Sunday, October 17th, 7:30pm. Le Tour de mon jardin: Songs and stories from my Francophone roots with Michel Lalonde is an evening concert at the Milton Community Hall celebrating English and French songs and stories. Originally from Ontario, Michel Lalonde has been a part of the Canadian music scene for decades. He was a founding member of the acclaimed Quebec-based folk rock Garolou who won a Felix award as Folk group of the year and a gold record for their debut recording. He has released three solo albums Délit de suite in 1987, L’Amour fou in 2011 and Comme un engin in 2019. He has also recorded four albums with Saskatchewan based La Raquette à claquettes whose string-band sound has garnered them both a WCMA and an ECMA award. Community Events- Miltonvale Park and Milton Community Hall
A Vax Pass is required to attend events at the hall. It is not required to visit the Council office, the washrooms, the food cupboard, for worship services, or for those under 12.
For those of you with pooches – The municipality added a dog ramp and some tunnels to the dog park at the Milton Community Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road. Special thanks to Island Coastal Services for donating the used plastic culverts and to Councillor Paul Poole for volunteering to obtain all the parts and put them together!
The 50-50 Draw - The Milton Community Hall's regular 50-50 draws happen twice every month. The first is on the 15th of every month and the second is drawn on the last day of every month. The next draw is Friday Oct 15. Tickets are $3 or 2/$5. Drop in for tickets or e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.
Coffee Club happens on Mondays and Friday at 10 a.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Feel free to drop in for coffee, tea, treats and conversation.
Mat Yoga continues on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am and is on a drop-in basis.$5

Exercise classes are held with Michele Gallant on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m. Cost is $5 and at this point the classes are full -but if residents would like to be on waiting list for cancellations, please email admin@miltonvalepark.com. There are two empty spaces on this Friday -if you would like to try it out. We can also make arrangements for people to attend vis zoom – so if that is of interest, please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com.
Community Yard Sale -The Milton Community Hall is planning a yard (with some crafts and baking) sale on Saturday, October 16 from 8 a.m. -12 noon. To rent a 6 ft table for $15, contact the hall at miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com or 902-566-3154. Set up will be 6:30-8:30 on Friday, Oct 15 and 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Everyone must be fully vaccinated to take part.

North Milton Women’s Institute– The North Milton WI still welcomes new members (you don’t have to live in North Milton!). and will be meeting on Monday October 18th at 7:00pm at the Milton Community Hall.
The next municipal Council Meeting is planned for Wednesday, October 20 at 7:30 pm at the Milton Community Hall. Space is limited, and pre-registration is necessary. (admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090). The new Official Plan received approval at the September meeting and the new Development Bylaws received first reading and approval at the same meeting. The Bylaws will receive second reading and approval at the October meeting. Both documents do not come into effect until they have received approval from the Minister of Agriculture and Land. Arts and Crafts - The municipality, in conjunction with Lorraine Quinn, is hoping to host a series of arts/craft/sewing afternoons. Days are not chosen as of yet, but it will likely be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Space is limited to six people and individuals would be asked to commit to a series of 4-6 afternoons. The Young at Heart Musical Theatre Group was funded for a New Horizon for Seniors grant to do a storytelling project Close to Home: Islander Stories in three locations across PEI (about four-six sessions each). They are planning an introductory Meet & Greet at the Milton Community Hall for those 65+ on Saturday, October 23rd at 2:00pm. If you are interested, register with the hall. (566-3154)
Municipal Halloween Drive Through event – Reserve Saturday afternoon, October 30 for a Halloween event for the children of Miltonvale Park at the Milton Community Hall. More details and registration information to follow.
French Cooking – Crepes and Bechamel Sauce – with Margaret Prouse – Wednesday, November 3 at 1:30 p.m. Space is limited. Free for Miltonvale Residents aged 55+ and by donation for others. *Year of France.
Painting - The municipality is planning painting classes (acrylics) with Julia Purcell for six Tuesday afternoons, beginning November 9th, 2021. $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Contact the Council office to sign up.

The hall is also planning to host another fundraising bingo in January, and is still planning to organize Tai Chi. Council is still waiting to hear from the bird photography presenter on a suitable date.
Story Telling - The hall is looking for seniors to share stories of their life experiences on the Island, history, gardening, travel, and many other topics, in a series throughout the fall and winter months. There will be no Coffee on Labour Day Monday morning at the Milton Community Hall.
The Council Office will not be open on Monday.
The Miltonvale Community Park is no longer staffed, although it is checked regularly. If you are there and notice it needs attention, please call the Council office at 902-368-3090 or in an emergency, 902-213-0597.

The hall is also planning to arrange another session of tai chi classes and further hip hop classes.
Exercise classes -Seniors exercise classes will resume Monday, October 4th at the Milton Community Hall and continue on Mondays and Fridays from 9-10 a.m., with Michele Gallant. Spaces are limited and priority will be for residents. Contact the Council to sign up -details re numbers (class sizes and cost (approx. $4-5) will be finalized according to COVID restrictions in place for October.

Thanks to summer workers for the municipality Janelle Sinclair, Ananya Kaur, Luke Doiron and for the hall Lindsey Rhynes and Colin Doiron. It was a pleasure to have them working in the community this summer – and best of luck as they return to school this fall. Shayla Steinhoff is still working for the municipality for a few more weeks and Lindsey will be continuing to work part-time at the hall for the fall.

NEW – 50/50 Draw! Are you feeling lucky? We recently received a lottery license and will be having two draws each month so enter before the 15th of the month to be included in the first draw, and before the last day of each month for the second! Tickets are $3 each or 2 for $5. They are available for purchase at the Hall.
Upcoming EVENTS
On Friday, August 27 - View the award winning short film "The Rolling Pin" written and directed by Miltonvale Park resident Trilby Jeeves, and take part in a Q&A about the film (which had scenes shot at the Hooper Farms -and a quick shot of the Milton Community Hall!).
