Miltonvale Community Park – Kate and Eilidh are at the Community Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road from Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm. with sporadic weekend hours. The drop-in school-age program happens Monday- Friday from 10 am -4 p.m. but not over staff lunch time.

Get Moving Week is this week -Aug 8-12 at Miltonvale Community Park! From 10am-4pm the following activities will be available at the park for school-aged children:
Monday - Soccer
Tuesday - Playground Games
Wednesday - Basketball
Thursday - Disc Golf
Friday - Dancing Day
**Children ages 6 and under must have an adult accompany them**
**Please come fill out your child's information sheet before allowing them to go to the park on their own**

The staff can provide indoor activities if it is raining.

Planning Board Meeting – The August Planning Board meeting will be cancelled (ordinarily be the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:30) as there are no files ready for a Planning Board recommendation at the moment.

On Friday, August 12th, Miltonvale Park has booked a private charter at 1:00 p.m. aboard Joey's Deep Sea Fishing. Currently the trip is full – but if you would like to be on the waiting list, email miltonvaleparkengage@gmail.com or call (902) 368-3090 Miltonvale Park residents who are 55+ can attend for just $10.  This Year of Canada Project, funded through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Project.

Selling, Buying or Downsizing – Coldwell Banker Parker Realty agent Jerry Coady will share information about real estate and answer questions on Tuesday, August 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Platinum Jubilee Teas -The Milton Community Hall received funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage and is holding a third Platinum Jubilee Tea on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free and dress is “summer garden party”.  Call 902-566-3154 or email miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com, to reserve a seat at your preferred tea. The deadline to reserve is Thursday 5 p.m., Sept. 15.

Thursday, Sept. 22 at 1:00 Margaret Prouse will be demonstrating recipes from PEI as part of the Tear of Canada Seniors Project. Do you think potatoes will be on the menu?

The Milton Community Hall has Covid rapid tests (through the Red Cross Safe at Home Program) which can be picked up in the lobby at the hall (or we can run them out to your car if necessary!). We also have some KN95 masks and quite a few medical masks for folks who need them.
Reminder – that Municipal Elections take place on Monday, November 7… Have you ever thought about running for Municipal Council? Miltonvale Community Park – Kate and Eilidh are planning to staff the Community Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road from Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. with the possibility of some weekend hours. This week the drop-in school age program (10 am -4 p.m.  but not over the lunch time) focuses on Outdoor Adventures. Today is an obstacle course. Tuesday – Treasure Hunt.
Wednesday – Relay Races.
Thursday -Introduction to Geo-caching.
Friday- Scavenger Hunt

Next week is Get Moving Week at the park. Congratulations to Summerside who was the Provincial winner of ParticipACTION’s Community Better Challenge. Thanks to all who added to Miltonvale’s Park’s total active minutes, and brought us in the top 50 communities of Canada.

TONIGHT -Miltonvale Park is hosting a book club for the Year of Canada seniors project. Tonight, Monday, August 1 at 7:00 p.m. author Jane Ledwell, will join us for a discussion of Return of the Wild Goose, a short book of poetry that explores the life of writer and activist Katherine Hughes. Set against the intimate relief of a PEI landscape, these poems are inspired by what is known--and unknown--about her contradictory life as a Catholic teacher in Mohawk territory; a journalist working alongside Canada's first-wave feminists and suffragettes; the first public archivist of Alberta; and finally, as a zealous Irish nationalist. This (auto) biographical dialogue between Jane Ledwell and Katherine Hughes offers the reader a fierce remembrance of a PEI radical. On Wednesday, August 3rd at 7 p.m. come try rock climbing at the Red Rock Climbing wall in Stratford. Free for Miltonvale Park residents 55+. This is a great way to have some youthful fun! Fascinating Ladies – Saturday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Join the Young at Heart Musical Theatre for their lively show at the Milton Community Hall. This show will highlight some of the great music from the 1920’s to the 1970’s, and celebrates artists like the Boswell Sisters, Andrews Sisters, Dolly Parton, Teresa Brewer, the Maguire sisters and more. Performers are Olivia Barnes, Marlene Handrahan and Kaitlyn Post. Tickets are $17 advance and $20 at the door and includes a delicious strawberry shortcake snack! It promises to be a lively show. Currently there aren’t many tickets sold - so there should be lots of room for physical distancing.

Set against the intimate relief of a PEI landscape, these poems are inspired by what is known--and unknown--about her contradictory life as a Catholic teacher in Mohawk territory; a journalist working alongside Canada's first-wave feminists and suffragettes; the first public archivist of Alberta; and finally, as a zealous Irish nationalist. This (auto) biographical dialogue between Jane Ledwell and Katherine Hughes offers the reader a fierce remembrance of a PEI radical. The book is available through the PEI library system. The four that the hall purchased are all reserved or out on loan at the moment. Wed. June 29th at 7:30 p.m. – Residents are invited to meet for a bike ride at Brackley Beach -Meet at Main parking lot (at end nearest toll booths) Must register to attend by noon -Wednesday with miltonvaleparkengage@gmail.com or (902)-368-3090. This is part of the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge.

ParticipACTION – The Community Better Challenge  is almost through – but it is not too late to get involved. Judging looks at how many people have downloaded the ParticipACTION app (20 so far) and the number of active minutes recorded (through the apps and the events that are held) that Luke reports, such as the virtual walk to Milton, Louisiana and the Walk More than the Mayor contest, pickleball, disk golf, and walks and bike rides. First prize on PEI is $15,000 -so we are asking residents and friends to please register with Luke and send in your steps or active minutes to be counted towards our totals (Every little bit helps!) You can easily send along your minutes or https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SYNYV32 (or just send Luke an email BY NOON on THURSDAY, June 30) and you can use the ParticipACTION app to also  track other events, such as gardening.  If we stay in the top four, we will need to submit an outline of what we did – along with what we would do with the $15,000 prize…. Canada Day – Friday, July 1 at the Miltonvale Community Park (413 Sleepy Hollow Road). 11:30-2:30 – Wear red and white! The tree giveaway (details below) starts at 11:30. The BBQ (hamburgers, hot dogs and baked potatoes) starts at 12, with Canada Day cake and ice cream to follow. There will be a few gluten-free and vegetarian options - please ask!  There will be music with Lisle Clarke and John MacAllar, along with games, and a bouncy castle. The official opening is at 12:30 with the singing of O Canada and presentation of the Volunteer of the Year Award. Rain location -Milton Community Hall. Everyone welcome! Canada Day Tree Giveaway – The Cornwall and Area Watershed Group (CAWG) will hold a Tree Giveaway at the Miltonvale Park Canada Day Celebrations with one-gallon three-year-old native shrubs, and trees as well as small seedlings of Oak, Spruce, and Pine native to PEI. There is a limit of five trees per household. The native trees include yellow birch, hemlock, white ash, white spruce, white birch, and red maple. The native shrubs include butterfly bush, purple chokeberry, and red osier dogwood.  CAWG staff will be available on Canada Day to share information about what trees might do best on your property and how to properly plant them.  If you bought a rain barrel through the CAWG’s rain barrel fundraiser, be sure to submit the rebate form (online at miltonvalepark.com) to get your $25 rebate.

The PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls returns to the Milton Community Hall on Saturday evening, June 18 with its show – A Milton Mixer. Tickets are $30. It’s Juno award-winners on stage in Milton with the commanding vocals of Dene singer/songwriter Leela Gilday, joined by brother Jay Gilday, together as ‘Sechile Sedare’, along with the toe-tapping trad of string quartet The Fretless. Whimsical Kent-born folk singer/songwriter Lucy Farrell joins as special guest. The hall has tickets or they can be purchased online through smallhalls.com.

 NEW Canada Day Tree Giveaway – The Cornwall and Area Watershed Group (CAWG) will hold a Tree Giveaway with one-gallon three-year-old native shrubs, and trees as well as small seedlings of Oak, Spruce, and Pine native to PEI. There is a limit of five trees per household. The native trees include yellow birch, hemlock, white ash, white spruce, white birch, and red maple. The native shrubs include butterfly bush, purple chokeberry, and red osier dogwood.  CAWG staff will be available on Canada Day to share information about what trees might do best on your property and how to properly plant them.  If you bought a rain barrel through the CAWG’s rain barrel fundraiser, be sure to submit the rebate form (online at miltonvalepark.com) to get your $25 rebate.

 Jubilee Teas -The Milton Community Hall received funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage and is planning to ld three Platinum Jubilee Teas on Monday July 25 at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m..  We are still working on details – but if you are a royal fan, and would like to be involved with a display, photos or information you may have acquired to help us celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, please contact miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.

There are washrooms on site. Players can bring their own water, chair, bug spray, and sanitizer. ParticipACTION – Community Better Challenge  will take place all through June -Miltonvale Park will be competing again this year in the Community Better Challenge. Last year we were in the top 3 municipalities in PEI.  We ordered three disk golf baskets for use at the park, and summer student Luke Doiron will be coordinating another virtual walk to Milton in Louisana, and a Mayor’s Challenge. Details will follow as events take place in June. To get ready, we are asking residents to download the ParticipACTION app on your phones, as that should automatically count your activity in the municipal contest.

Covid rapid test kits that can be taken home are now available at the Milton Community Hall, as are some KN95 masks. These are available through a Red Cross Stop the Spread program.  There are also some supplies in the food cupboard that folks are welcome to take and lots of books and puzzles to borrow in the hall entry.

Thanks to all who supported the Hall’s annual lobster supper last weekend – and to all the great volunteers who helped get everything ready for the 265 suppers that were served.

UPDATED -Monday, May 9 was the annual blanket tying activity to mark Family Violence Prevention Week. UPDATED -The Milton Community Hall annual Lobster Takeout Meal is now sold out. If you were able to get a ticket, pick-up is 2:30-4 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022.  You may want to bring a bag (or two) for your meal (still working on packaging plans .. but our hoarded supply of plastic bags we purchased before the ban is running out!)

Saturday May 14 is also the annual WI Roadside Clean Up. The yellow WI Roadside clean up bags were dropped off to the Miltonvale Park welcome signboards (Old Rte 2/Crabbe Road, Milton Community Hall and North York River Road) and at the Milton Convenience Store and the Little Free Library at the Community Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road. There are more at the Milton Community Hall. Bags can be left roadside anytime before Sunday, May 15. Do not put them in your black waste cart, or the cart will not be collected. You can also use clear plastic bags.

IWMC – Reminder that the week of May 9 is “big” waste collection week for IWMC. Items should be placed at the end of your driveway by Monday at 7 a.m. as collection does not necessarily occur on your regular garbage day. The week of May 16th yard waste will be collected.

  • Consult with board, residents and hall users to develop and carry out programming that will meet community needs while meeting requirements of the Public Health Office, if necessary.
  • Light maintenance - cleaning and painting, planting, watering flowers, grass cutting.
  • Shopping
  • Scheduling. 
  • Promotion of hall.
  • Assist with the preparation of funding applications and reports.
  • Formalizing policies and procedures.
  • Compilation of recipes and menus for possible catering.
  • Inventory and organize hall equipment.
  • Booking and coordination of hall events and programs.
  • Assist with community events, including Canada Day, Platinum Jubilee events (teas and concert), yard sale.

This position is funded through the Post Secondary Student Program.
Eligible students must:
• Have graduated from Grade 12; and/or
• Have attended a post-secondary institution full-time in the current year and intend to return to full-time studies in the fall of the current year;
• Be a resident of Prince Edward Island and legally authorized to work in Canada.
