Garden Produce - The Miltonvale Park Community Garden is growing well -and produce is available for Miltonvale Park residents or people in need,  in a cooler by the mailboxes at the Milton Community Hall as it is harvested. If you would like to help pick, Ryan is usually in the gardens Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings, but pickers at other times are welcome - touch base with Ryan at gardenatMVP@gmail.com or text 902-218-8219 if you would like to help when he is not here. There is usually a photo uploaded on the Miltonvale Park Residents (private) Facebook page as the cooler gets filled. The produce on the upper half of the garden (closer to the Rustico Road) belongs to individual gardeners, while the lower portion is communal.

Wednesday, August 27- 2025 Babysitter Certification Course, 8:45 a.m. - 3:15.  As part of Milton Community Hall's Most Valuable People project, the 2025 Babysitter Certification Course by Kidproofpei will be hosted on Wednesday, August 27. The evening At Home Alone and First Aid Course has been CANCELLED.   Funded in part by the  PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being. The Babysitter course costs $10 for  Miltonvale Park residents and $35 for others (value is $53). Youth are asked to bring a nut-free lunch, water bottle, pen/pencil, and a doll if possible. Wednesday, Aug. 27 - The CAO is out of the municipal office after 2 p.m. for an appointment.

Friday, August 29 - The final day the Miltonvale Community Park is staffed. Thanks to Jason and Sadie for working at the park this summer. Zach will be back at the municipal office this fall as he completes another Co-op Work term with Miltonvale Park. Antoinette finishes her work term for the Association of Rural Community Halls, and Prince and Elesea’s work terms are also complete for the Milton Community Hall, although you will see Elesea around the hall for a few more weeks! Thanks to all the summer staff, including Ryan, who will still be around, overseeing the garden (and other duties as required!) for Miltonvale Park.

Saturday, August 30 -Monday, September 1, The Milton Community Hall and the Rural Municipality Office are closed for the Labour Day Weekend. 

Sunday, August 31 - Deadline to buy tickets for the hall’s next 50-50 draw. $3 each or 2/$5 - at the hall or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. Congratulations to Allison MacDonald, who won $135.50 on the mid-August draw. There is a possibility the draw won’t be held until Tuesday, Sept. 2, due to the holiday.

NEW - Zumba returns! Wednesday late afternoon Zumba is back with Natalia at 5:30, beginning on September 3. $2 for Miltonvale Park residents and $5 for others. Drop in for a fun exercise! Funded in part by the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being.

Join members of a weekly drum circle who will be meeting at the Milton Community Hall on Sept.3, to share information about the Mi’kmaq culture and language. All are welcome. Snacks provided. Free. These garden workshops with MacroMom Sarah Forrester teach you how to preserve your garden all year round. Each lesson will cover different produce and the ways to preserve it. With financial support from the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Government of Prince Edward Island and the Government of Canada. Priority registration for Miltonvale Park residents, as spaces are very limited for this hands-on workshop.

Priority for supper is Miltonvale Park residents (aged 55+).

Miltonvale Park's Chat and G.B.& T. (Growing Better Together) project, which is funded by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program, is hosting eight Seniors Supper Club meals at the Milton Community Hall before the end of March 2026. We are planning to feed about 40 seniors each meal, and for the September 12 meal are pleased to have entertainment by Halifax-based entertainer, Tony Quinn, following the supper. He promises old classics, Irish, Scottish, PEI, Cape Breton, Newfoundland, Broadway songs, and everything in between, in his show called "Tunes with Tony -Musical Memories."

The meals are eat-in or will be delivered to local shut-ins. The menu has not yet been decided. The 3rd meal will take place at the Milton Community Hall on Friday, September 12, at 6 p.m. The meal and entertainment are free for Miltonvale Park seniors and by donation for others, if space is available. Saturday, September 13 from 7-9 p.m. ROOTS AND RHYTHMS Concert by CTW - an evening dedicated to the timeless sounds of traditional country and roots music,  on Saturday, September 13th, 7-9 pm at Milton Community Hall. Presented by the musical trio CTW, attendees can expect a variety of music, comedy, and a welcoming atmosphere.COST:  $2 Miltonvale Park residents and $5 for others. Sunday, Sept 14 - 6:30 p.m. Small Town Pride Sunday Movie 6:30 p.m. - Small Town Pride offers an intimate look at the joys and challenges of being queer in a small town. Filmed in Alberta, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories, the film follows LGBTQ2S+ people and allies as they prepare for their local Pride celebrations. Organizing in church basements, classrooms and around kitchen tables, they take on a conservative town council that won't fly a rainbow flag and bend some rules to create a safe space for youth to come out. But despite experiences of isolation and discrimination, they love their communities and strive to make them places where everyone, no matter who and how they love, can live and thrive. Miltonvale Community Park - The school-age drop-in day program for Miltonvale Park residents ends on Friday, August 29 at 4 p.m. at the Miltonvale Community Park. They plan to be at the park Monday-Friday 9-6 until August 29th. There will be pickleball lessons for children on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Please call ahead before sending young children, in case park staff are absent due to illness. Radon – The municipality is participating in a campaign to happen in the fall of 2025, where we will have 100 radon detectors for residents to put in their homes for 100 days and then be sent off for results to be obtained (and emailed directly and confidentially back to residents). Radon – The municipality is participating in a campaign to happen in the fall of 2025, where we will have 100 radon detectors for residents to put in their homes for 100 days and then be sent off for results to be obtained (and emailed directly and confidentially back to residents). We expect to be back around 5:15. The cost is $35 for Miltonvale Park residents age 55+ and $45 for others, and includes admissions, snacks and the cost of the bus. There are two seats left. Monday, August 11 - The Sweet Tooth Toonie Bingo Games in July were a huge hit, so the hall is hosting two more in August! As part of Milton Community Hall's Most Valuable People project, the 2025 Babysitter Certification Course and “Home Alone + First Aid” workshop by Kidproofpei will be hosted on Wednesday, August 27. The Babysitter Course takes place from 8:45 a.m. - 3:15 and the At Home Alone and First Aid Course from 4:15 -8:15  Most of the cost will be covered by a grant from PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being. The Babysitter course costs $10 for  Miltonvale Park residents and $35 for others (value is $53). Youth are asked to bring a nut-free lunch, water bottle, pen/pencil and a doll if possible. Community Garden Update -The garden is doing well, and we have been able to put some veggies near the community mailboxes at the hall. There are currently lots of zucchini! If you are interested in helping to harvest, for yourself or others, there are green beans that need picking -and a sign at the garden showing the location. As last year, the “community” section of the garden is the lower half (furthest from Rte. 7), while the “upper plots” and raised beds belong to individuals. Saturday, August 2nd from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm -Tour the Naturalization Gallery with the Cornwall and Area Watershed Group: This tour is a unique chance to experience all of PEI's native trees while travelling comfortably on a gravel path! The Naturalization Gallery is a walking trail within the Terry Fox Sports Complex, in Cornwall. It serves to preserve the history of the Wabanaki-Acadian forest, and is a showcase of the native forest that once covered this Island, but has sadly since been reduced to less than 10% of PEI's land use. Municipality of Miltonvale Park is PEI’s Most Active Community! 

Miltonvale Park wins funds after residents and organizations got active throughout June during the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk 

July 22, 2025 – The sixth edition of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone to get active throughout June, ended with the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park earning the title of PEI’s Most Active Community and winning funds to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.  

 Mayor Hal Parker notes, “I am extremely proud that Miltonvale Park has been named a winner of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. Miltonvale Park residents and friends have worked and played very hard in June to reach this goal. I love to see the connections people make as they exercise and move together. We have been a finalist three times in the last four years, so we are delighted to finally come out on top!   We may be a small municipality, but we are a very active one, and we will continue to be active year-round.” 

Many local organizations, including the Pickleball Club, North Milton Women’s Institute, Milton Community Hall, and the Wheatley River 4-H Club, registered and held 21 events. The municipality also hosted many activities, including line dancing, hip hop, waltz, and chair step dance classes, a learn to play pickleball class, pole walking lessons, yoga, fitness, and gardening sessions.  Miltonvale Park hosted a virtual walk to Mt. Milton BC, and surpassed the 5270km journey by more than 1350 km. A “ Move More than the Mayor” contest, saw three residents walk more than Mayor Parker’s 330 kilometers in June.

The municipality’s plans for the $15,000 prize are not yet known. The municipality is hoping to develop Active Transportation Trails, invest in more upgrades to the community park, or expand its current fitness programs. Miltonvale Park will be planning a ParticipACTION Party in the Park to celebrate this win, and will release details as they become available.

EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS - July 22, 2025

Miltonvale Community Park - The school-age drop-in day program for Miltonvale Park residents is open at the Miltonvale Community Park. Jason, Sadie, and Zach are planning lots of activities and can supervise school-aged children. They plan to be at the park Monday-Friday 9-6 and 12-4 on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be pickleball lessons for children on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Please call ahead before sending young children, in case park staff are absent due to illness. It’s a wonderful way to have fun, make music, and connect before heading home to brush teeth, and tuck in your little ones, who’ll be all ready for bed!

Saturday, August 2nd from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm -Tour the Naturalization Gallery with the Cornwall and Area Watershed Group: This tour is a unique chance to experience all of PEI's native trees while travelling comfortably on a gravel path! The Naturalization Gallery is a walking trail within the Terry Fox Sports Complex, in Cornwall. It serves to preserve the history of the Wabanaki-Acadian forest, and is a showcase of the native forest that once covered this Island, but has sadly since been reduced to less than 10% of PEI's land use. NEW - Help pick a date for a 2025 Babysitter Certification Course and “Home Alone + First Aid” workshop. As part of Milton Community Hall's Most Valuable People project, the 2025 Babysitter Certification Course and “Home Alone + First Aid” workshop by Kidproofpei will be hosted in August, provided that at least ten participants register. Most of the cost will be covered by a grant from PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being. Instructor Arlene is available on August 13 and 27 (Wednesdays) and August 30 (Saturday). While "all three days" is the ideal response, we understand that each family has its own schedule, and the Hall will work to accommodate as many families as possible.

June – Thanks to all who participated in June’s ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk. Miltonvale Park and Charlottetown have been named the two finalists for PEI, and were asked to submit further information to ParticipACTION for their decision, which will be announced by July 22. Thanks to summer student Zach Addison for working diligently to organize many events! Participants walked 6622.73 km - which put us way past the 5270 km needed to get to Mount Milton in BC - so thanks everyone! Mayor Hal Parker walked 330 km in June, and three residents moved more than the mayor in June - Congrats to Phil Jefferson, Dana Coles and Leone C.

 

Canada Day - Thanks to all those who joined us for Canada Day at the Miltonvale Community Park on Canada Day and to those who helped make the day such a great success! Congratulations to Claire Mathson, who was named Volunteer of the Year, to Linda Sullivan, the 2025 Good Neighbour of the Year, and to James Marjerrison who won the Milton Community Hall’s July 1st 50-50 draw. 

 

Miltonvale Community Park - The school-age drop-in day program is now underway at the Miltonvale Community Park. Jason, Sadie, and Zach are planning lots of activities and can supervise school-aged children. They plan to be at the park Monday-Friday 9-6 and 12-4 on Saturdays and Sundays. It is a good idea to confirm they are there before sending young children, in case they are absent due to illness. The park phone number is 902-368-7587. With the wet forecast for next week, they have decided to move Sports Week later, and so will have Craft Week, July 7-11and July 21-25 will now be Sports Week. Friday, July 18, will be Tie Dye Day. The Naturalization Gallery is a walking trail within the Terry Fox Sports Complex, in Cornwall. It serves to preserve the history of the Wabanaki-Acadian forest, and is a showcase of the native forest that once covered this Island, but has sadly since been reduced to less than 10% of PEI's land use. The Rock Painting Tent, which helps Milton, the community rock snake grow, will be hosted by the Most Valuable People Project again this year at the Canada Day celebration in the Miltonvale Community Park from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. All supplies are provided.

Virtual Walk to Mount Milton, BC – Come together as a community and see if we can reach Mt. Milton, BC. This mountain’s summit is 5270 km away.  This walk will take us across the Canadian provinces and on top of this beautiful snowy mountain. Radon – The municipality has just signed up for a campaign to happen in the fall of 2025, where we will have 100 radon detectors for residents to put in their homes for 100 days and then be sent off for results to be obtained (and emailed directly and confidentially back to residents).
