Join Dino Dunsford and his band for an evening of Gaither-style Country Gospel, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14 at the Milton Community Hall (7 New Glasgow Road, Rte 224 North Milton). Not only will there be great music, but there will also be a sing-a-long, open mike and a canteen full of goodies. The Milton Hall is now air conditioned for your enjoyment! Milton Community Hall is hosting the annual North Milton Women's Institute Strawberry Social on Tuesday, July 14th. From 6:00-7:30 we will be serving a large variety of strawberry desserts for you to choose from! Touted as one of the finest banjo players in the UK as well as being a superb singer, songwriter and guitarist, Dan Walsh is described as ‘the real deal’ (UNCUT). He now has three critically acclaimed solo albums with new album Incidents and Accidents receiving excellent reviews. As well as many tours of the UK, he also has recent successful trips to Canada, Germany, India, Norway and New Zealand to his credit. Having made his name with duo Walsh and Pound and now a member of the award winning Urban Folk Quartet, as well as guest appearances on stage and on record with the Levellers and Seth Lakeman, this unique and eclectic musician has stunned audiences across the world.His eclectic and innovative approach has led to many exciting collaborations alongside his solo work and the UFQ including tours with Northeast concertina legend Alistair Anderson and recent work with sensational Indian sarangi player Suhail Yusuf Khan as well as Canadian country singer Meaghan Blanchard. He also retains a passion for outreach work and through the prestigious Live Music Now scheme has performed throughout the UK in hospices, hospitals, special schools and care homes. He also teaches banjo both in person and over Skype.

Kendra MacGillivray – www.kendramacgillivray.com
Kendra MacGillivray is one of the most sought after performers and instructors of the Celtic fiddling style in the world. She is a professional musician with two 2002 East Coast Music Awards for “Female Artist of the Year” and “Instrumental Artist of the Year” and numerous nominations. She has traveled the world, having performed at festivals and events in places like Japan, Australia, Germany, Iceland, Europe, Scotland, throughout the United States and Canada. Kendra has also performed as guest soloist with Symphony Nova Scotia, the PEI Symphony and the Maritime Forces – Stadacona band. She has been teaching Celtic fiddling, private and group lessons as well as workshops and master classes to fiddlers of all ages, all over the world for the past twenty-five years. She has taught at Holland College’s School of Performing Arts for the past three years, the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts in Halifax, NS, Southern Hemisphere International School of Scottish Fiddling in New Zealand, Ceilidh Trail School of Celtic Music and the Gaelic College of Celtic Performing Arts & Crafts in Cape Breton, Pacific Institute of Celtic Performing Arts & Crafts in BC, as well as numerous fiddle camps throughout Canada. In 2003, Kendra won the Music Nova Scotia award for “Educator of the Year” and in 2009, Kendra was the Executive Director of The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada in Summerside. Presently, MacGillivray continues to teach private fiddle and piano accompaniment lessons through the Kendra MacGillivray School of Celtic Music, at her home in Charlottetown, where she resides with her husband, CBC broadcaster, Bruce Rainnie and their two sons, Mark and Alistair. MacGillivray has four recordings to date, including “Love o’the Isles” (2008), “Over the Waves” (2000), “Clear the Track” (1996) and “Antigonish’s Own” (1990). In 1995, MacGillivray graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish with a Business Administration Degree, in 2002, she received the “Young Alumna of the Year” award and she is now serving her second year as President of the StFX Alumni Association, PEI Chapter.

Raised between two potato fields on Prince Edward Island, Ashley Condon is the grandchild of Bill Leblanc, a Canadian country pioneer who once spent the night in jail with Hank Snow. Like pecan pie – sweet and nutty – Ashley has won audiences over with her larger-than-life stage presence and down-to-earth charm. Growing up on everything from old-time country to folk, blues and soul, her music resonates.
The success of her 2007 EP, I’ve Got This Feeling, garnered the attention of Ontario native and ECMA-nominated producer and musician Joel Hunt (Teresa Ennis, Old Man Leudecke). The two joined creative forces for Ashley’s debut, full-length album, Come In From The Cold, released on June 15, 2010. Since its release in 2010, Come In From The Cold has been nominated for a 2011 Canadian Folk Music Award, a 2011 East Coast Music Award and has earned the rising star two 2012 Music PEI Awards for New Artist Of The Year and theLynn Grishko Memorial Bursary.  Her highly anticipated sophomore album,This Great Compromise, released in 2013 was produced by Condon’s songwriting hero; three-time JUNO award winning singer-songwriter David Francey. Condon is backed on the album by Francey’s touring band of Chris Coole (banjo, guitar) and Mark Westberg (guitar), John Showman (fiddle) and by celebrated Maritime multi-instrumentalist Darren McMullen.
The signature track on her Francey-produced sophomore album, This Great Compromise, is “Betty’s Song”, a tribute to Condon’s mother and a wistful lament over Condon’s inability, as a teenager to appreciate her mother’s strength and perseverance. Other highlights include “Gentle Man”, a haunting number about an encounter with a stranger;  “We’ve Got Love”, a simple love song with a very Francey-like sing-along chorus; “I’m Going Home, Amen”, a rollicking gospel song about moving back to PEI; and the title track, a sophisticated statement about the impact on relationships when partners must leave the province for work.
Having lost both her parents by the age of 22, it is not surprising that Condon’s music is marked by an astonishing degree of maturity and nuance – the kind almost never heard in emerging artists. She has established a reputation in the Maritimes as a powerful writer and singer and an uncommonly-talented entertainer who jokes and tells stories to audiences as naturally as if they were guests in her living room.
Ashley did a national tour of Canada in fall 2013 to support her new album and has played Canadian folk festivals including The Stan Rogers Folk Festival, The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and The Shelter Valley Folk Festival.

David Weale
David Weale is a celebrated and well-known Island author, having penned various novels related to Island history and vernacular. He has written  numerous children’s novels, including the book Doors In The Air, chosen by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre for last year’s TD Grade One Book Giveaway, the largest free-book distribution program for school-aged children in Canada. Other recent works include STORY, written with Colin Buchanan, which provided a mix of music and storytelling at the Guild in Charlottetown last summer.

PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls - Monday, June 15 -Details to be announced. 

Exercise classes continue on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m. but are cancelled on May 4 due to the election poll being held at the hall. Coffee Club follows exercise, Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m.

The annual lobster take-out is now planned for Sunday, May 31.
