We are celebrating Saskatchewan in January and in recognition of all the wheat they produce, there will be a BISCUIT MAKING WORKSHOP at Milton Community Hall with Joyce Blackett and Shari MacDonald on Thurs., January 19 at 7 p.m. The storm date is Fri. Margaret Prouse is sharing recipes from Saskatchewan – (wheat/baked goods/ wheat berries) on Wednesday, January 11 at 1 p.m. Please email admin@miltonvalepark.com by Monday noon if you would like to attend. It is free for residents and by donation for others. This is part of the Year of Canada project, funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. The next food presentation will be Thursday, February 9 at 1 p.m. and will feature food from the NWT and Nunavut.

Miltonvale Park is holding a sign painting afternoon with Red Island Handcrafted on Friday, January 27 from 2-4 p.m. For Miltonvale Park Residents age 55+, the cost to make a 12” sign is $15 or a 15” sign  is $20. For non-residents or younger folks the cost is  $25 (12”) & $35 (15”). Space is limited and priority is for residents, especially those 55+. The choices of sign can be viewed on discussion page on the Facebook event.  This event is part of the “Year of Canada” Project and is partially funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. The Milton Community Hall is holding its annual meeting on Monday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. (Storm date - Feb 6). All adult residents of Miltonvale Park are a part of the non-profit Milton Community Hall, Inc. and are invited to attend. If you are interested in being a director on the board – please contact miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.

Former municipal councillor Lindsey Rhynes is the PEI representative for Raising the Roof and is organizing a fundraising event overnight at the Milton Community Hall on Tuesday, February 7. The fundraising will bring further supports for those experiencing/at-risk of experiencing homelessness, to PEI. The number of Islanders experiencing homelessness in our province is unfortunately only growing.  Her goal is to bring Raising the Roof's "Reside" program to PEI. Reside turns vacant properties/buildings into new affordable housing units for people experiencing/at-risk of experiencing homelessness, while using the construction as a vehicle to train and employ people with barriers to employment in the trades.

Some of the proceeds from this fundraiser will be going towards the youth homelessness prevention programs at the Boys and Girls Club in Charlottetown and Montague. This fundraiser will be happening in cities across the country on February 7th -Toque Tuesday. Lindsey is looking for guest speakers, sponsors, and participants. If people would like to help make a difference, donations to her campaign can be made here

The Milton Community Hall is hosting computer classes with Andy Gallant on some Monday evenings (7p.m) in February (6th & 13th) and March (6th & 20th). Reminder that the hall has KN95 masks, COVID rapid tests, a lending library of books and puzzles (and a box of cook books!). The municipality has rebates for HE washers, low flow showerheads, low-flow toilets that are replace older models that are 13L or more, and bursaries of $75/child/year for extra-curricular activities, like arts and culture classes, registration for 4-H, or other young organizations, or sports. and when there is more snow – the municipality also has six pairs of snowshoes to lend out.

The hall still has lots of Covid Rapid Test Kits, if anyone is in need. It doesn't look like anyone will be needing to borrow snowshoes before the office is open again, according to the weather forecast.

Coffee Club will resume on Friday, January 6.  The next Yoga classes will be on Tuesday, January 3rd – Mat at 9:00 a.m. and Chair Yoga at 10:30 $6 for Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for non-residents.

Exercise classes return on Monday, January 9 at 9 a.m. and if you are making a New Year’s resolution to get more active – there is space available in both yoga and exercise classes -and remember that all Miltonvale Park residents can try one yoga class for free. Line Dancing classes are scheduled for Mondays, but are full.

We appreciated all the help getting the meals out 24 hours early due to the storm that was expected. The next Community Meal will take place on Thursday, January 5 and will be turkey vegetable soup, with an alternate choice of squash soup. Take-out suppers will be available from 5-5:45 p.m. while people will be able to eat-in at 6:00 p.m. Delivery can be available within Miltonvale Park, if necessary. The Milton Community Hall received funding from the Island Community Food Security Initiative to provide six free "community meals" to the people it serves, before the end of March, 2023. We will be using local foods where possible, and hope these meals can ease some of the stress families and individuals may be facing. The meals will be eat-in or can be taken out. The first meal will be a turkey dinner at the Milton Community Hall.  There are 125 free meals available and preference will be given to Miltonvale Park residents.

Milton Community Hall received funding from the Province through the Island Community Food Security Initiative to provide six free community meals using local foods before the end of March 2023. The first one will be a turkey supper on Tuesday, December 13. The meals will be a combination of eat-in, take out, and in certain circumstances, delivery and are for local residents. To register please complete the form . Take out will be between 5-5:30 with the eat-in meal at 6 p.m. There will be 125 dinners provided, and preference will be to Miltonvale Park residents.


The Miltonvale Park Year of Canada Project is focusing on Nova Scotia in December – and as it is the birthplace of hockey, we are treating Miltonvale Park residents, aged 55+ to a free ticket to the Charlottetown Islanders vs. Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.* We will need to know who is under 60, or over, to purchase the appropriate tickets for the game. Resident, and Islander bus driver Wilf Banks, has received permission from Coach Atlantic to bring the Charlottetown Islanders bus to the Milton Hall to pickup folks for the game (6:00 p.m. at the hall) and being them back after the game– but we need a minimum of 30 people for the bus. The bus is open to people of any age, who may have their own tickets for the game and would like transportation. Please email admin@miltonvalepark.com or call 902-368-3090 to reserve a ticket for the game (55+ only) and/or a seat on the bus.

Seniors Navigator Melanie Melanson shared lots of info when she was here last week. Many folks were interested in the Seniors Independence Initiative, which provides financial assistance for shovelling, meal prep, transportation, etc. for low-income seniors.

Halloween -We have several treat bags left from the drive through on Saturday. If your child missed getting out to trick or treat – please let me know and I can set a treat bag aside for you.

And I am happy to welcome Joy MacIntyre back to help out at the office for the net few months.
