Published on Dec 9, 2021
Holiday cheer will take centre stage in Charlottetown, Summerside, Victoria, and Milton this December with the debut of Christmas in the Kitchen. The festive new show from Campbell Webster Entertainment, the production company behind the internationally-acclaimed Anne & Gilbert - The Musical, will play seven shows across four PEI stages.
Christmas in the Kitchen takes place at the Milton Community Hall on Monday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the hall - 902-566-3154 or miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com, by cash, cheque or e-transfer.
“Christmas in the Kitchen is a uniquely PEI celebration of the season. It brings together the ingredients that make for a rip-roaring PEI kitchen party - storytelling, toe-tapping tunes, and loads of good cheer - and wraps them all around the holiday theme,” said Campbell Webster, the show’s producer.
The yuletide production, which was created by Nicholas Whelan and Suzy Wilde, will showcase some of PEI and Canada’s most accomplished musicians performing exciting new arrangements of classic Christmas songs.
“We’re thrilled to bring Christmas in the Kitchen to two PEI stages after a successful run of the Together At Last Festival,” said Whelan, who co-produced and performed in the 8-week festival this past summer, which included productions of A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline, Anne Mixtape and WANNABE: A Spice Girls Tribute. “Some of the same musicians that performed in Together At Last will be joining the cast of our new holiday show and we’re excited to bring such a high-caliber ensemble of talent together.”
The cast will be led by Wilde, Whelan, and well-known Island storyteller, Alan Buchanan. They will be joined by talented Island musicians Paul Hopkins, Jenna Marie Holmes, Michael Peters, Tuli Porcher, and Pat King. With a focus on celebrating Canadian talent, Christmas in the Kitchen will feature music from The Rankin Family, David Myles, Anne Murray, Great Big Sea, and other popular artists.
“There will be fiddles, there will be folklore, and there will be lots of fun,” said Whelan. “We’re all looking forward to bringing a new take to some of the season’s most popular songs and interspersing them with plenty of hilarity from the master storyteller himself, Allan Buchanan.”
The all-ages production is proudly sponsored by Discover Charlottetown, Holland College, and Island Hill Farm.
“We had so much fun this summer working on the productions that made up Together At Last and now we’re bringing something really special to the stage for the holidays that’s heart-warming and bound to get everyone into the festive spirit. It feels like the best kind of reunion and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to our Christmas kitchen party,” said Webster.
