TONIGHT - PUBLIC MEETING - The municipality is holding a Public Meeting to review planned changes to the Official Plan and Development Bylaw which is scheduled for the Milton Community Hall on Tuesday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m.  Residents and landowners are invited to attend.  Details are available on the municipal website:  Please RSVP to  902-368-3090 or admin@miltonvalepark.com.

NEW - ALSO TONIGHT - Communities 13 Inc expansion subcommittee is hosting a public meeting to discuss and share information about a possible 2nd Ice surface and expansion to the APM Centre. APM’s  Expansion Committee ask for your support by attending this meeting, TUESDAY, March 19th at 8PM at the APM gymnasium and signing their petition https://chng.it/4dqRb66yPw

Council Meeting – The regular monthly meeting of the council for the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park will be Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Milton Hall. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to admin@miltonvalepark.com.

NEW -Community Garden Meeting - Spring is rapidly approaching, and people interested in being involved in the community garden in the field across from the Milton Community Hall are invited to a meeting on Thursday evening - 6:30 p.m. March 21 at the hall to discuss the steps forward re organizing, plot size, seeds/plants…. Think Spring Fling – Seniors afternoon dance – Friday, March 22 from 2-4 p.m. Free for Miltonvale Park residents and by donation for others. Please RSVP to the hall (902-566-3154 or miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. Milton Hall Seasonal Seniors 

Concert – Everyone is welcome to a concert on Saturday afternoon, March 23 at 2 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall, featuring Scott Parsons with Em Peters and Dr. Heather Taves. Scott will share songs and stories about the lives of Black Islanders. Also performing will be K'eziah Collie, who performs in Harmony House's The 27 Club. This concert is part of Miltonvale Park's PEI Through the Years project which is funded in part by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Monday March 26 – Peggy is tentatively planning Easter egg and bunny decoration for children at 5 p.m. in the Milton MVPs project. Watch for details!

NEW -Dumpling Making Party 11 am-1 pm, Wednesday, Mar 27. Bring a side dish, snack, dessert, or stories, or anything you'd like to share at the party. The dumplings are on us. Very limited space! RSVP to MiltonMVPs@gmail.com.  Miltonvale Park residents have priority booking.

The Milton Most Valuable People Project and Kidproofpei will host three March Break Workshops at Milton Community Hall! "Safe Kids" for 5-7 years old, "Stranger Smarts" for 7-10 year-olds, and "At Home Alone + First Aid" for ages 10+ on Thursday, March 28.  

The courses are FREE for Miltonvale Park residents, and offered at half the regular price for others!  Miltonvale Park residents have priority in bookings. RSVP to MiltonMVPs@gmail.com or call 902-566-3154 by Friday, March 22. Include your child's name and age in addition to your phone number, the class, and whether you are a Miltonvale Park resident.

Safe Kids – 9 -10 a.m. Age 5-7. (Minimum 5 students) – A fun and entertaining way to learn about injury prevention and how to safely respond in an emergency. Takeaway – Safe Kids Workbook. Free for MVP residents, $15 for non-residents. (Reg price $35+tax)

Stranger Smarts – 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Age 7-10.  (Minimum 5 students). Learn to make safe choices when approached by seniors.  Takeaway – Strangers Smarts student book. Free for MVP residents, $20 for non-residents. (Reg price $35+tax)

At Home Alone + First Aid 1-5 p.m. Age 10+. Students learn to stay safe through interactive lessons, role play and hands-on training. Help prepare our child for an emergency! Take Away – At Home Alone Plus student book, and wallet card. Free for MVP residents, $25 for non-residents. (Reg price $45+tax)

March 31 is the deadline to buy tickets for the Milton Community Hall next 50-50 twice-monthly draw. The Rules and Regulations for Hanging Out The Wash - Young at Heart Theatre is pleased to be embarking on a new tour with a brand-new show! Written by Diane Barnes and Wade Lynch (who brought you Sadie Off the Rails), The Rules and Regulations for Hanging Out The Wash will be at the Milton Community Hall on Sunday evening, April 7 at 7 p.m.  Marlane O’Brien directs this funny and charming musical with a stellar cast: Marlene Handran, Brynne Cutcliffe and Jamie Cordes.  Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door…. Bring your clothesline stories if you have any!  

Workshop – Anti-Racism: The BasicsNEW Tentative Date Thurs April 18 (or possibly the 25th), 2024 at 6 p.m. FREE  What do you know about ANTI-RACISM?

In this 3-hour session, participants will be engaged in discussions on white privilege in the context of white supremacy and colonization, understanding racial trauma and how it is perpetuated, conversations on intersectionality and how various marginalized identities (e.g., gender, ability, class, sexual orientation, etc.) intersect to create unique experiences of oppression, and an exploration of ways to reduce unconscious bias and white privilege.

The workshop will be highly interactive and participants are asked to be open to challenging their own ways of thinking. Facilitators Aaron and Amirah from BIPOC USHR promise to give participants space, within reason, to explore difficult questions and concepts.

This workshop is funded by an Anti-Racism Microgrant, funded through the Province of Prince Edward Island.  Please register at 902-566-3154 or MiltonCommunityHall@gmail.com.

WEEKLY EVENTS

Coffee – Visit neighbors each Monday and Friday from 10 -11 a.m. at the Milton Hall. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available by donation of coin or treats. Please drop in, no pre-registration is required.

Seniors Fitness Classes with Michele Gallant are cancelled until the fall.

Yoga with Leone – Tuesdays and Fridays (upstairs) - 9 a.m. Building Blocks of Yoga (mat) & 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga. $6 Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others at the hall on Tuesdays, with classes by donation on Fridays, with support from the Central Region Sport and Recreation Council. Classes follow school cancellations/delays for weather.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meet at the Hall on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information contact Joyce at 902-368-2055.

Weekly Wednesday Zumba Classes take place at 5:30. Miltonvale Park residents - $2/class and others are $5. Email  MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to register.

Monday afternoon line dancing and Monday evening singing groups are full.

OTHER

The PEI Seniors Secretariat is offering grants of up to $5000 for events to promote positive images of aging/address ageism, support healthy aging, improve personal safety/address abuse or neglect of seniors, improve financial security of seniors, address social isolation, support intergenerational connection and support aging in the right place for the individual senior. Shari is eager to hear any suggestions for programs or activities within the next week.

Book Club – We have several copies of Blackouts to Bright Lights, Canadian War Bride Stories–If you would like to borrow one and join in on a discussion – please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090.

  Air Fryer – We have an air fryer for Miltonvale Park seniors to borrow to try out. Please contact MiltonCommunityHall@gmail.com to borrow it for approximately a week, or call 902-566-3154.

Miltonvale Park has a $75 bursary program per child per year (residents only) to participate in extracurricular sports, arts, cultural groups/activities and events. Deadline for this fiscal year is March 31, 2024. https://miltonvalepark.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/bursary-application2020.pdf

The Milton Community Hall is seeking someone who may be interested in being on call to raise and lower the flag at the hall on a volunteer basis. It does require using a tall ladder. If you are interested, please email miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com or contact 902-566-3154.
