There ARE a lot of Seniors events - which is because the municipality and hall have been awarded some seniors grants... and they need to be wrapped up by the end of March!  If you are interested in other activities for different ages,  the hall has funding through the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being to (in a nutshell)- bring joy, teach life skills and build community.

January 19, 2024 -Miltonvale Park and Milton Community Hall

Coffee – Visit neighbors each Monday and Friday from 10 -11 a.m. at the Milton Hall. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available by donation of coin or treats. Please drop in, no pre-registration is required.

Seniors Fitness Classes with Michele Gallant - at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays. They focus on balance and flexibility and are lots of fun! Cost $6. If you need more info, please  email admin@miltonvalepark.com. Class is cancelled if schools (Bluefield family) are cancelled or delayed for weather-related reasons.

Yoga with Leone – Tuesdays - 9 a.m. Building Blocks of Yoga (mat) & 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga. $6 Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others at the hall. Leone is planning to offer a THURSDAY yoga class on the 2nd floor at the hall, beginning in Feb.,  but the time hasn’t been determined yet. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meet at the Hall on Tuesdays at 6:15. For more information contact Joyce at 902-368-2055.

Weekly Wednesday Zumba Classes take place at 5:30. The cost for Miltonvale Park residents is $2/class and non-residents are $5. Space is limited. Contact MiltonMVPs@gmail.com if you are interested.

Lily Forsythe, a Registered Acupuncturist, presented an Acupuncture Information Session on Monday, January 8 and will be back regularly for a while on Monday January 22 at 5:30 p.m. to answer questions about acupuncture and host a community acupuncture session. Do you like to sing? The Milton Hall hosts singers on Monday evenings from 7-8 p.m. for a casual and fun singing group. Class is full. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to be on the waitlist.

Learn to Square Dance -Tuesdays, began on January 16 at 2 p.m. and continues  Jan 23, 30 and Feb 13, with a storm date of Feb 20. Free for Miltonvale Park residents and by donation for others. NEW -Earthly Haven Holistic Healing will be having group Reiki sessions on Tuesday, January 23 beginning at 2 pm, 5:30 pm, and 7:30 pm for anyone curious! Sessions are 60 mins and exchange is $25 www.earthlyhavenholistichealing.com This is not a hall or municipal sponsored event -just sharing information in case anyone is interested.

Concert -There will be a free concert (donations will be accepted). on Friday, January 26 from 7-8:30 (Storm date Saturday, Jan 27 at 2 p.m. This Friends for Friends Concert features newcomers to PEI who would like to give back with a performance of classical music featuring, violinist and conductor Tzu-Cheng Wang, who was nominated for Holland College Musician of the Year and whose album “Hello PEI” was nominated for the 2023 Music PEI Award for Instrumental recording of the year.  He will be bringing an Erhu, is a Chinese two-stringed bowed musical instrument, more specifically a spike fiddle, which may also be called a Southern Fiddle, and is sometimes known in the Western world as the Chinese violin or a Chinese two-stringed fiddle. NEW -- Basket Weaving Workshop with Noella Moore will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Maximum 10 people. Priority for registration will be given to Miltonvale Park Residents, age 55+, who did not attend the previous basket making  workshop. January 31 is the deadline to buy tickets for the next 50-50 twice-monthly draw. You can buy tickets at the hall-or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. $3 each or 2/$5. The winner of the January 15 draw was Sylvia Andrew who won $94.

NEW - REGISTRATION OPEN! The next Community Meal is scheduled for Thursday, Feb, 1 with the final meal box giveaway scheduled for Feb 22.  We are tentatively planning ham and potato scallop. It is designed to support the expansion of local markets while supporting goals related to community food security, particularly increasing access to affordable local food and improving health and food safety.  The program will focus on strengthening local food systems through community-led education and outreach activities.

Margaret Prouse will be presenting a Foods of PEI demonstration on Tuesday, February 6 at 1 p.m. Pre-register for this PEI-Through the Years event ASAP at admin@miltonvalepark.com. It is filling up quickly. Spaces will be held for a few more days for residents. Non-residents are now being placed on a waiting list.

The Milton Community Hall will be holding their annual general meeting, Tues Feb 20, storm date Feb 27 at 7 p.m. (to be confirmed)The adult residents of Miltonvale Park are all members of the non-profit, Milton Community Hall, Inc, and are invited to attend the meeting to learn about events of the past year and plans for 2024. The municipality is planning a Public Meeting to review planned changes to the Official Plan and Development Bylaw which is tentatively scheduled for the Milton Community Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 27. More details to follow.

Ukrainian Easter Egg Decorating (Pysanky) with Linda Weeks-Sunday March 10 at 1:30 p.m. Storm date March 24. The hall and the municipality are currently organizing a number of other events and activities for the winter – and hope to be announcing other dates as they get finalized: book club meetings, Reconciliation Speaker, Concert for Black History Month, Seniors Health Fair, snowshoe outing, Drum Circle on a Tuesday evening (TBD), and an Unconscious Bias Workshop (TENTATIVE time might be a Wednesday morning -If you are interested - does this work for you?) … along with more events through the Milton MVP Project! If you have suggestions for speakers or would like to be involved in any of these events, please reach out to the Council or the hall.

Community Garden – The Council will be establishing a Community Garden on land opposite the Milton Community Hall, which the family of the late Robert Hooper is generously letting the municipality use. If you are interested in being involved, please let the Council office know at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090. We have purchased a greenhouse, and are looking forward to the growing season! We are still working on details -and would love to get community members involved!

Air Fryer – We now have an air fryer for Miltonvale Park seniors to borrow to try out. Please contact MiltonCommunityHall@gmail.com to get your name on the waiting list to borrow it for approximately a week, or call 902-566-3154.

MILTONVALE PARK RESIDENTS - Do you have a senior friend or neighbour who may not be connected to the internet and may be missing out on these emails? Please consider offering to print and deliver these notes to them, or make them aware they exist. Perhaps they have a relative who could be put on the email list to share information with them to ensure they are aware of local activities and opportunities.
