Miltonvale Park and Milton Community Hall - September 24, 2025

Garden Produce – The Miltonvale Park Community Garden is growing well. Produce is available for Miltonvale Park residents or people in need, in a cooler by the mailboxes at the Milton Community Hall, as it is harvested. If you would like to help pick, Ryan is usually in the gardens Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings, but pickers at other times are welcome – touch base with gardenatMVP@gmail.com or text 902-218-8219 if you would like to help when he is not here.. The produce on the upper half of the garden (closer to the Rustico Road) belongs to individual gardeners, while the lower portion is communal, and signage indicates what is available to be picked by residents and those in need.
WEEKLY Events:
Coffee Club – Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. Open to all – Admission by donation of treats or coins.
Exercise class – Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays at 9 a.m. Michele Gallant leads seniors chair and balance class on Mondays and Wednesday Cost $6. Work out with others to an exercise class on the big screen on Friday -. Cost – $1. No need to register – just drop in!

Garden Work Times – Join Ryan in the community garden (opposite the Milton Community Hall) on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. Help is welcome at other times! Text 902-218-8219 for info.

Mindfulness on the Mat – Yoga on the Mat with Leone
TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS 7:55 a.m. Mat yoga ~ and 9:10 am for Yoga on the Chair. On Tuesday, October 7, the Tuesday class times will move to Mat 8:45 a.m. and Chair 10 a.m.
Tuesday classes are hosted by Miltonvale Park and cost $10 for Miltonvale Park residents,$12 for others (Drop-in) on Tuesdays.

Tuesday, September 30 - National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day. The Council office will be closed. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing Wear Orange! Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is a commemorative day led by Indigenous communities to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on children, families, and communities. It honours Indigenous children who were lost in the residential school system. The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that “Every Child Matters”. On September 30, please wear orange to honour the thousands of survivors of residential schools.

Tuesday, Sept 30 - Deadline to buy tickets for the hall’s next 50-50 draw. $3 each or 2/$5 – at the hall or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. Thanks to Pat Lalonde for being the Sept. 16 50/50 winner! A special thank you to Pat for also donating his earnings of $118.50 back to the hall! The draw will take place on Wednesday, October 1.

Monday, October 6 -Apple & Pumpkin Pie Filling–Preserving the Garden Workshop from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at Milton Community Hall. This garden workshop with MacroMom Sarah Forrester will teach you how to preserve your garden all year round. Take home a jar of the produce. Limited space! Register at GardenatMVP@gmail.com. With financial support from the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the Government of Canada. Priority registration for Miltonvale Park residents, as spaces are very limited for this hands-on workshop.

Tuesday, October 7, at 6 p.m. - Community Potluck Supper - This meal is being held to allow newer residents who have moved to Miltonvale Park over the last few years to meet neighbours in the community. Everyone is welcome! The municipality will provide meat and rolls. Residents are asked to bring a side dish, a dessert, or something else to share, if possible. We would like to build more connections within our community, and if you can’t bring a dish, that is no problem - there is always more than enough food at a potluck!

NEW -Wednesday, October 8, Drum Circle at 7 pm. (to be confirmed). Join members of a weekly drum circle who will be meeting at the Milton Community Hall on Oct 8, to share information about the Mi’kmaq culture and language. All are welcome to join in, or just watch! Snacks provided. Free. Funded by the Government of Prince Edward Island. The September drum circle was greatly enjoyed by those who attended when it was hosted before. REGISTRATION NOW OPEN! Thursday, October 9 -Senior Community Meal -Milton Community Hall Supper - Eat in 6 p.m. Take out 5-5:30, Thanks to the Seniors Community Meal Grant from the Province of PEI, the Milton Community Hall is pleased to offer the 2nd of four community meals for seniors who may need a bit of help with meals. We aim to use local ingredients whenever possible and hope these meals will help ease some of the stress families and individuals may be facing. Meals are available to eat in or take out, if necessary. The first meal took place on Wednesday, August 6, and was a huge success! The next meal will be held on Thursday, October 9, to celebrate Thanksgiving. We will be providing 110 free meals, with preference given to seniors living in Miltonvale Park. Starting in October 2025, the Most Valuable People Project will host monthly birthday parties for the Miltonvale Park community. Each birthday celebrant will look forward to receiving birthday cards, gifts, greetings, and surprises from their community, as well as from their families, friends, neighbors, and anyone and everyone.

Miltonvale Community Park – The park is no longer staffed, but will be checked sporadically. If you are there and notice it needs attention, please contact admin@miltonvalepark.com, 902-368-3090 or 902-213-0597. NEW - The walking trail was paved this week. Please be careful if you are walking or cycling the 600 m trail as in some places there are significant drop-offs to the ground… please no sprained ankles!
Miltonvale Park Child Bursary - Residents, are you signing your children up for activities, classes, and lessons? Residents are entitled to $75/child/year to reimburse costs of extracurricular activities. https://miltonvalepark.com/for-residents/rebates-forms/
Radon – The municipality is participating in a campaign to happen in the fall of 2025, where we will have 100 radon detectors for residents to put in their homes for 100 days and then be sent off for results to be obtained (and emailed directly and confidentially back to residents). There will be an information session on October 30 and test kits will be distributed then. Register for this FREE program at admin@miltonvalepark.com.
Be FIRESMART – The municipality now has magnets to give out to residents – with important contact information and the link to the FIRESMART website.
