Monday, May 9 is the annual blanket tying activity to mark Family Violence Prevention week. Come make blankets to donate to victims of family violence, beginning after exercise class – about 10:15. Please pre-register at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090. Light lunch provided. Watch for the purple ribbon to encircle the Milton Community Hall!

Dr. Michael van den Heuvel from UPEI has confirmed he will be at the Milton Community Hall on 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 to make a presentation on Coles Creek, and the effects on water levels and fish habitat that he has been studying over the past few years (since the Charlottetown wellfield was established). RSVP to attend at the hall.

There will not be a Planning Board meeting in May. The next Municipal Council meeting is Wednesday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. Councillors are planning to take part in a tabletop emergency planning exercise on Saturday morning, June 4. The Milton Community Hall annual Lobster Takeout Meal is now sold out. If you were able to get a ticket, pick-up is 2:30-4 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022.  Thanks for the support!!

Saturday May 14 is also the annual WI Roadside Clean Up. The yellow WI Roadside clean up bags were dropped off to the Miltonvale Park welcome signboards (Old Rte 2/Crabbe Road, Milton Community Hall and North York River Road) and at the Milton Convenience Store and the Little Free Library at the Community Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road. There are more at the Milton Community Hall. Bags can be left roadside anytime before Sunday, May 15. Do not put them in your black waste cart, or the cart will not be collected. You can also use clear plastic bags. 

Thursday, May 19  (RESCHEDULED) at 1 p.m. - Home Economist Margaret Prouse continues the Year of Canada - Foods Across Canada food presentations with a look at ONTARIO - a fruit producing province at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at the Milton Community Hall. Come see how to make Norwegian Apple Pie, Nectarine and Blueberry Cobbler and Cherry Clafoutis.

Wednesday June 1 is the next Year of Canada Food Presentation at 1:00 p.m. Margaret Prouse will be sharing recipes and tastes of food from Alberta. RSVP to the Council Office.

The deadline to order a rain barrel for the Cornwall and Area Watershed Group fundraiser is Victoria Day.  Order and pay online at RainBarrel.ca/CAWGPEI before May 23, 2022. Miltonvale Park residents can also order at the Council Office at the Milton Community Hall (or online) AND are eligible for a $25 rebate on a rain barrel from the municipality (One per property/household). https://miltonvalepark.com/rain-barrel-rebate/ Pick up is scheduled for the Terry Fox Sports Complex, in Cornwall PEI on Sunday June 5 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. BUT pick up at the Milton Hall may be possible.

Fun Bingo - Miltonvale Park is holding a Seniors & Family Fun Bingo at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at the Milton Community Hall. Admission - Item for a prize -$5 value or $5 cash. Maximum - $10/household. No dabbers required – Reusable cards will be used. Space is limited, so priority will be fore residents who book for the next week. Please pre-register at 902-368-3090 or admin@miltonvalepark.com by noon, Thurs. May 26. Masks strongly recommended. This is part of the Year of Canada project. In May we are celebrating Ontario. (Think “Sudbury Saturday Night”!) Funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Card Parties - The hall is planning to hold summer card parties (Auction) on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. beginning June 2 and continuing through the end of September.

The hall is planning to have a community yard sale on Saturday June 11. Contact the hall to book a table (which I expect will be $15 for a 6 ft table). 902-566-3154.

The PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls returns to the Milton Community Hall on Saturday evening, June 18 with its show – A Milton Mixer. Tickets are $30. It’s Juno award-winners on stage in Milton with the commanding vocals of Dene singer/songwriter Leela Gilday, joined by brother Jay Gilday, together as ‘Sechile Sedare’, along with the toe-tapping trad of string quartet The Fretless. Whimsical Kent-born folk singer/songwriter Lucy Farrell joins as special guest. Get more information and buy your tickets here. Reminder that April 1 was the beginning of a new fiscal year – so residents can apply again for a child bursary if you are registering your children in spring or summer programs or activities, and rebates are still available for High efficiency washers, low flow toilets and showerheads. https://miltonvalepark.com/for-residents/rebates-forms/

The Biciborne (Bicycle Repair Station) is located adjacent to the Confederation Trail off the North York River Road, near the parking lot – and has lots of tools and a pump if you need to get your bicycle ready for the season!

The PEI Seniors Secretariat has funding available for seniors programming/activities supports. The deadline for applications is May 11. Council would be interested in hearing of any suggestions that residents may have:
• Projects which promote positive images of aging
• Projects which reduce the social isolation of seniors
• Home First/Age in Place Projects
• Financial security and safety
• Projects that support Age-friendly initiatives
The hall is planning to apply for a car maintenance session, computer classes, several seniors dance events (dateless prom, Christmas dance, Halloween sockhop) and three lunch and learns, including genealogy, memoirs and e-books.

Covid rapid tests are also available at the Milton Community Hall. There are a limited number that can be taken home, (we hope to have more available for distribution soon), but tests can be done onsite. These are available through a Red Cross Stop the Spread program.

Jubilee Teas -The Milton Community Hall received funding from Heritage Canada and is planning to hold three Platinum Jubilee Teas on Monday, July 25, Sunday, August & and Saturday, September 17.  We are still working on details – but if you are a royal fan, and would like to be involved with a display, photos or information you may have acquired to help us celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, please contact miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.

Council is planning for a return to the annual noon time Canada Day BBQ, cake and games at the Community Park. Watch for details.

IWMC - Reminder that the week of May 9 is “big” waste collection week for IWMC. Items should be placed at the end of your driveway by Monday at 7 a.m. as collection does not necessarily occur on your regular garbage day. The week of May 16th yard waste will be collected.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all the folks who are mothers, have mothers, act like mothers, are mothers to four-legged critters, or are missing your moms. May everyone enjoy good memories and special times tomorrow.
