Miltonvale Park News and Events – August 7, 2023 

Events take place at the Milton Community Hall unless otherwise noted.

TONIGHT (Monday at 7 p.m.)  - When a roll of paper towels meets leftover blush, romantic roses that will never fade are created!" Experience this fun magic of making flowers on Milton Mighty Monday, August 7 at 7 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall. Free for Miltonvale Park residents, by donation for others.

Monday-Friday -July 31-Aug 4Miltonvale Community Park – It’s Dance Week at the Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road. Special activities from 1-4 - Monday -Balloon dance, Tuesday -Balancing Book dance, Wednesday -Cotton Eyed Joe Line Dance, Thursday and Friday -Just Dance. School-aged children are welcome to drop in for activities from 9-4 Monday-Friday, EXCEPT – the staff have lunch from 12-12:30 and are not available to supervise children over their lunch break. Parents/caregivers should complete the registration form for their children before dropping them off.  Pre-school children require a parent/caregiver to be present. Contact the park at 902-368-7587or miltonvalepark.staff@gmail.com The park is on Facebook: Miltonvale Community Park  The equipment available at the park can be used by anyone when you are there while the staff are available – (croquet, games, disk golf…).

Coffee -Visit neighbors each Monday and Friday from 10 -11a.m. at the Milton Hall. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available by donation of coin or treats.

Yoga with LeoneTuesdays 8:30 a.m. Building Blocks of Yoga & 10:00 a.m. Chair Yoga. $6 Miltonvale Park residents and $7 for others.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)  meets at the Hall on Tuesdays at 6:15. For more information contact Joyce at 902-368-2055.

LAST DAY - August 9 - PEI pickleball IPE's is hosting FREE Pickleball classes for youth on Mondays and Wednesday at 9-10:30 am for 7-13 year olds at the Miltonvale Community Park at 413 Sleepy Hollow Road. Card Parties - The hall hosts summer card parties (Auction) on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.   $4.  

A Summer Senior Tea will take place on Thursday, August 10 at the Milton Community Hall at 3 p.m. Free for Miltonvale Park residents, 55+ and by donation for others. Please RSVP to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com or 902-566-3154 by Monday, August 7. Funded by the PEI Seniors’ Secretariat.

Electric Vehicle Presentation – Do you want to learn more about Electric Vehicles including where to charge an EV; how far a charge will take the car; the overall cost of ownership, or whether going electric is correct for you?   Safe Driver PEI will be at the Milton Community Hall for an EV presentation and test-driving tour on Saturday, August 12 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. There are limited 30-minute test-driving spots. MondayAugust 14 at 6:30 p.m. – Family Bingo night. Admission is something valued at $5 per family (or small group!)  that is suitable for a bingo prize. Bring your family, friends or neighbours! RSVP to MiltonMVPs@gmail.com.

August 15 is the deadline to buy tickets for the next 50-50 twice-monthly draw. You can buy tickets at the hall-or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com. $3 each or 2/$5.

Milton MVPs Project -The all-ages dance party is Friday August 18, from 7-9 p.m. with DJ Margot Postma. Dust off your plaid shirts and cowboy boots for a COUNTRY dance! Sign up or get more information from MiltonMVPs@gmail.com or 902-566-3154. Funded by the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being.

St. John's Anglican Church's annual Blueberry Social to be held at the Milton Community Hall (corner of Rte. 7 and 224), on Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. Admission is $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children under 12. Bring along family and/or friends and enjoy a delicious buffet of sandwiches and desserts. Take-outs are also available.

Wednesday, August 23 at 1 p.m. is the next PEI Through the Years Food presentation with home economist Margaret Prouse. Please RSVP to admin@miltonvalepark.com by Aug. 21.

Reserve Thursday, August 24 for Miltonvale Park’s next Seniors Bus tour, to Western PEI. Tanner is finalizing details but the bus will be stopping at Green Park and Yeo House, Lennox Island Cultural Center and Backwoods Burger for lunch… and perhaps another stop or two…  

NEW - Wednesday, August 30 at 1 p.m. – Cooking on a Budget. Join Home Economist Margaret Prouse for a presentation/demonstration. Funded by the PEI Senior Secretariat. RSVP to admin@miltonvalepark.com.

Upcoming Events: There are still lots of events being planned – watch for dates as they get organized!

  • We are LOOKING for IDEAS! The New Horizons for Seniors funding application for activities for 2024-25 is now open. If you have suggestions for activities that could be included in a project that would do any of the following, please let me know!
  • Promote volunteerism among seniors and other generations
  • Engage seniors in the community through the mentoring of others
  • Expand awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse
  • Support the social participation and inclusion of seniors
  • Provide capital assistance for new and existing community projects and programs for seniors
