July 19, 2024 – News and Events – Miltonvale Park & Milton Community Hall ..and Miltonvale Community Park

Reminder that the Miltonvale Community Park is staffed in the summer and has a drop-in day program for school-age children of Miltonvale Park. Nathalie, Kessie and Jason work 9-6 Monday-Friday and 11-4 on Saturdays, 12-4 on Sundays with a daily lunch break from 1:30 -2. The week of July 22-26 is Craft Week, with youth invited to drop by to do crafts from 11-1 from Monday to Friday. The basketball and pickleball courts are expected to be resurfaced in the next few days, and have been pressure washed in preparation. They are open for foot traffic only.  Perhaps when the courts are out of service folks could try out the disk golf. There are also lots of toys and games at the park, so please ask the staff if you would like to see what is available. 

SUNDAY Movies –  Due to a prior booking, there will not be a Sunday movie on July 21.

POSTPONED - NEW DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED! Tuesday, July 23 from 6:15 -7:30 p.m. Hi Five! Speed Networking. Speed friending comes to Milton Community Hall. Free! Open to all people age 16 and above. Find it hard to meet people? Drop by for five-minute facilitated one-on-one chats with other folks and see if you find people that you click with! Trivia Night – Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Join us for a FREE Trivia Night at the Milton Community Hall on Friday, July 26. The games will kick off at 5:00 p.m., but feel free to arrive early at 4:45 p.m. to get settled in. Family Flea Market – Do you have children’s toys, clothes and sports equipment they have outgrown -or children who need new-to-them items? Join us on Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Milton Community Hall. To reserve your table for the event, please contact Peggy at MiltonMVPs@gmail.com by July 20. The registration fee is $10 for a small table or $15 for a large table. Please note – There will also be other items that are not children-focused.

OUTrageous Bingo - Monday, July 29 at 2 p.m. -  Everyone is welcome to attend our OUTrageous Bingo, where we belatedly celebrate Pride Week.  Bring something that could be used for a prize (Value $5) to receive four bingo cards for each person in your family. The cards are reusable, so no bingo dabbers are needed.Please RSVP to MiltonvalePoffice@gmail.com.  Funded by the Government of Prince Edward Island with financial support from the Government of Canada Department for Women and Gender Equality Edward in support of the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence.

Tea and Talk – Monday, July 29  from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. You are invited to listen to the stories of several newcomers as they share their journeys to Canada and their experiences settling into life on PEI. Speakers include Tatiana Mizerina, Jasonique Moss, and others who have chosen to make PEI home. This event is free of charge thanks to sponsorship by the Anti-Racism Table. Refreshments provided. Wednesday, July 31 is the deadline for the Milton Community Hall’s next 50-50 draw! Tickets can be bought at the hall or send an e-transfer to miltoncommunityhall@gmail.com.  Winner will be announced on August 1. Tickets are $3 or 2/$5. License #16921. Congratulations to Lorraine Garneau who won $70 in the July 15th draw.

Miltonvale Park Meets Our Neighbours – Residents and Neighbours are invited to a Community Potluck Supper on Friday, August 2 at 5:30 p.m.  – with special invitation to newer residents in the community! Ernie and Florence Coles invite friends and neighbours to their 50th anniversary open house at the Milton Community Hall on Saturday, August 3rd from 1:30-3:30. Please come share their special day and enjoy some cake and ice cream.

Active Aging Fitness with KK on Mondays - 9 - 10 a.m. at the Milton Community Hall, $6 (Drop-in).  No Friday classes for the summer.

Learn to Play Pickleball for Youth – Join us for FREE pickleball lessons, led by Doris Dunphy.. These lessons are open to youth ages 7 and up, and will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Miltonvale Community Park, 413 Sleepy Hollow Road. The courts are supposed to be resurfaced early next week (still!) – so please call the park at  902-368-7587 to confirm.

Yoga on the Mat with Leone Curtis - Tuesdays and Fridays 8 - 9 a.m. at the hall; $6 for Miltonvale Park residents, $7 for others (Drop-in)

Zumba with Natalia The schedule of Zumba fitness class in summer is every other Wednesday in July and August. Zumba takes place on July 24, and August 7, 21 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. at the hall; $2 for residents, $5 for non-residents. Contact MiltonMVPs@gmail.com to sign up.

Coffee Club – Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. Drop in to the Milton Community Hall for coffee, tea, snacks and conversation. Admission by donation of coin or treats! Everyone welcome!

Thursdays -The summer card parties (Auction) are every Thursday at 7:30. $4.

NOTES

Thanks to those who dropped by the Milton Community Hall on July 17 to celebrate Miltonvale Park’s 50th Anniversary. It was a fun event. Many thanks go out to Pat Cosh, Hazel Truong, Norm Birt, Jenna Rhynes, Ruth Awuja, Elesea Glenn, Councillors Rose Ramsay, Leo Doucette and Paul Poole for their help Wednesday night - and for those who took the plunge, especially the waterlogged Mayor Hal Parker, Councillors Leo and Rose, and Jenna and Elesea! $308 was raised for the community garden expenses! Congratulations to Parker MacKinnon, and Shirlee Curtis who won prizes for the Get Acquainted game and to Billy VanKampen, who was a door prize winner.

We have lots of activities to be planned over the summer! Hazel and Norm will be working at the Council Office, Jenna and Elesea are working for the hall, and Nathalie, Kessie and Jason are working at the park.

Activities in the Miltonvale Park in the Movies have been partly funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Activities in the Milton Hall MVP project have received funding from the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being, and are coordinated by Peggy Chen, MiltonMVPs@gmail.com.
