June 1, 2024 – News and Events – Miltonvale Park & Milton Community Hall

June is ParticipACTION Month in Miltonvale Park where we try (again!) to win the Community Challenge in PEI. The municipality will be organizing a number of events and activities to get people to be active.  There will be an email from summer students Hazel and Natalie early next week with more details to let folks know how to get involved, and share their activity on social media (which does help us in the contest, as this year ParticipACTION is tracking social media). I think the top provincial prize is $15,000! Please start being active now, and tracking your steps as we will be again hosting the Walk More than the Mayor Contest and the Virtual Walk to Milton. This year we are aiming to virtually walk to Milton, Massachusetts. If you would like to be involved – please send an email to miltonvalepark.staff@gmail.com to register for these virtual events!

NEW - There will be a Come Try Line Dancing on Saturday, June 15 from 1:30-2:30 at the Milton Community Hall, with Margot Postma.  Sign up for this free class at miltonvalepark.staff@gmail.com. The students are also hoping to plan an all-ages family dance party – tentatively Friday, June 7.

A Learn to Play Pickleball session will be held at the park, later in June, and Leone Curtis is planning to host yoga at the Miltonvale Community Park in June.

Learn more about plans for Tuesday and Thursday home workouts, Saturday and Sunday Pet Walks, Planting in the Community Garden, and painting (or preparing to paint) the Community Hall, Disk Golf, Strolls, and a Family Sport Day are other activities to watch for this month! Please let us know if you would like to lead or help with any active events in your area. E.g. walks with a friend tend to be more fun than walking alone, plus if someone is waiting for you, there is more motivation to get out and be active!  Also, please touch base if there is an activity you would like to see organized this month!

And don’t forget that the regular exercise events are still happening -and will count towards our events! Exercise Classes with KK Pinkowski will continue next week with classes on Monday and Friday at 9 a.m. ($6).  Yoga with Leone Curtis moves to an earlier time – from the mat on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 8 a.m. followed by yoga using a chair at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday classes are $6 for Miltonvale Park residents, and $7 for others, while Friday classes are by donation, with support from the Central Region Sport and Recreation Council… and remember – the first class for Miltonvale Park residents is free! Zumba on Wednesdays at 5:30 requires pre-registration with MiltonMVPs@gmail.com, and is $2 for residents and $5 for others.

Travel to the Dirty 30’s with this eccentric act unlike anything you’ve seen! Then, get your hands and feet ready for the Celtic stylings of sisters Cassie & Maggie. Their fiery talent is only surpassed by the joy they exude in performance as the two bounce between guitar, piano, fiddle, singing and stepping. It’s another legendary Small Halls mixer in Milton! OTHER NEWS

Community Garden Update (As of May 25)–There is still lots of space… If you would like to plant a plot, for yourself, or plant flowers or vegetables that can be shared with others, please reach out to the Council Office – admin@miltonvalepark.com.

Thanks to John Hooper and Andy Gallant for tilling the garden again! Council is also purchasing weed barrier for folks to use in the garden.

Some of the garden will be used for individual plots (free) while the hall will plant some things they might use over the summer and fall, and other produce will be planted for community members. If anyone is interested in helping or donating extra plants, or garden equipment (rakes, hoes…) you may have, please contact the Council office. Also reach out if you would like to reserve a plot in the garden (either at the Community Park or across from the Milton Hall) this summer. There is no cost to have a plot -and residents have priority… 902-368-3090 or admin@miltonvalepark.com.

MILTONVALE COMMUNITY PARK UPDATE – The tennis court and basketball court will have a new coating installed and new lines painted -hopefully sometime in June. There will also be some new playground equipment installed, again, hopefully in June, so there may be some disruptions to regular park activities. Sorry for any inconvenience, and we expect the disruptions will be all worth it!

Books –There are lots of other books and puzzles to borrow in the lobby at the hall. We recently got a large donation of children’s books – so feel free to bring your littles in to borrow some!

Air Fryer – We have an air fryer for Miltonvale Park seniors to borrow to try out. Please contact MiltonCommunityHall@gmail.com to borrow it for approximately a week, or call 902-566-3154.

For Miltonvale Park residents, if money or transportation is a barrier to any of the Milton Community Hall MVP (Most Valuable People) events, please let us know and we will do what we can to ensure that everyone can participate. Email MiltonMVPs@gmail.com.

Sign up for regular (approx. weekly) emails from the municipality listing events and reminders by emailing admin@miltonvalepark.com.

Activities in the Milton Hall MVP project have received funding from the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being, and are coordinated by Peggy Chen, MiltonMVPs@gmail.com.

Have a great weekend!
