Municipality of Miltonvale Park is PEI’s Most Active Community! 

Miltonvale Park wins funds after residents and organizations got active throughout June during the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk 

July 22, 2025 – The sixth edition of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone to get active throughout June, ended with the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park earning the title of PEI’s Most Active Community and winning funds to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.  

 Mayor Hal Parker notes, “I am extremely proud that Miltonvale Park has been named a winner of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. Miltonvale Park residents and friends have worked and played very hard in June to reach this goal. I love to see the connections people make as they exercise and move together. We have been a finalist three times in the last four years, so we are delighted to finally come out on top!   We may be a small municipality, but we are a very active one, and we will continue to be active year-round.” 

Many local organizations, including the Pickleball Club, North Milton Women’s Institute, Milton Community Hall, and the Wheatley River 4-H Club, registered and held 21 events. The municipality also hosted many activities, including line dancing, hip hop, waltz, and chair step dance classes, a learn to play pickleball class, pole walking lessons, yoga, fitness, and gardening sessions.  Miltonvale Park hosted a virtual walk to Mt. Milton BC, and surpassed the 5270km journey by more than 1350 km. A “ Move More than the Mayor” contest, saw three residents walk more than Mayor Parker’s 330 kilometers in June.

The municipality’s plans for the $15,000 prize are not yet known. The municipality is hoping to develop Active Transportation Trails, invest in more upgrades to the community park, or expand its current fitness programs. Miltonvale Park will be planning a ParticipACTION Party in the Park to celebrate this win, and will release details as they become available.

EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS - July 22, 2025

Miltonvale Community Park - The school-age drop-in day program for Miltonvale Park residents is open at the Miltonvale Community Park. Jason, Sadie, and Zach are planning lots of activities and can supervise school-aged children. They plan to be at the park Monday-Friday 9-6 and 12-4 on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be pickleball lessons for children on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Please call ahead before sending young children, in case park staff are absent due to illness. Join us at Milton Community Hall for an hour of music, steps, and laughter on Wednesdays in July from 9-10 a.m. Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion. Thursdays, July 24, and 31, from 5:00–6:00 pm - Puppets, PJs, and Joyful Jams -Join us for a cozy and creative music experience designed for little ones, ages 0–8! In your favorite pajamas, we’ll sing original songs, dance with puppets, play instruments, and practice mindful breathing — all in a fun, relaxed environment. It’s a wonderful way to have fun, make music, and connect before heading home to brush teeth, and tuck in your little ones, who’ll be all ready for bed!

Come as you are or change into your favorite PJs at Milton Community Hall. Perfect for children and their grown-ups to connect, move, and make joyful memories together.

Come ready to wiggle, giggle, and jam!

The 4-class series is funded by PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being and cost $10 (for the series) for Miltonvale Park children, $20 for children who live elsewhere, and $8 per class for drop-ins, if space is available. Agenda items include choosing a contractor for paving Miltonvale Community Park, giving 2nd reading, approval and adoption of Bylaw # 2025R-2024-14-A02 - A Bylaw to Repeal Bylaw # 2024-14-A02, and discussing ParticipACTION plans.

Wednesday, July 30 -Zumba Dance Party -  5:30-6:30.  People 14 years old and older are welcome to attend. No experience is needed. Dress up in a PEI Summer theme and join us for a Mid-Summer Island Dance Party at 5:30 pm on July 30th. You could win a prize for best representing PEI summer! Come on in! NEW! Friday, August 1 - Meet Your Neighbour Pizza Night at the Park.

Join us for Pizza Night at Miltonvale Community Park on Friday, August 1st, from 5-7 p.m. Admission is a painted rock. Bring a painted rock with a "LOVE/" to receive a slice of pizza, a soft drink, and a bowl to custom-make your own ice cream. You will also have the opportunity to win chicken wings by interacting! Saturday, August 2nd from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm -Tour the Naturalization Gallery with the Cornwall and Area Watershed Group: This tour is a unique chance to experience all of PEI's native trees while travelling comfortably on a gravel path! The Naturalization Gallery is a walking trail within the Terry Fox Sports Complex, in Cornwall. It serves to preserve the history of the Wabanaki-Acadian forest, and is a showcase of the native forest that once covered this Island, but has sadly since been reduced to less than 10% of PEI's land use. Join the CAWG crew for a tree ID lesson and tour of the Gallery! Saturday, August 2nd from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at the Naturalization Gallery (Dream Park parking lot).

Sunday, August 10, 2:30 pm - Roving Picture Show - As part of their series of silent films presented with live musical accompaniment by Island Jazz PEI  musicians, the Milton Hall will be hosting a screening of the original 1927 Chicago. Seniors Bus Tour - Monday, August 11 -Watch for registration details in the next day or two for this bus tour to the New Glasgow, Cavendish, Kensington Areas.

Garden Club – meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month, with the next meeting on August 12 at 6 p.m.  (TENTATIVE - That is by-election day for District 15 and there will be a poll at the hall). Bring photos for a virtual garden tour of your garden (or send them in advance to GardenatMVP@gmail.com.. The gardeners  also have a private Facebook group. If you are interested in taking part in the community garden, please contact Ryan at 902-368-3090 or Gardenatmvp@gmail.com. Folks are welcome to come help harvest and work in the garden on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. The garden club has been funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. NEW - Help pick a date for a 2025 Babysitter Certification Course and “Home Alone + First Aid” workshop. As part of Milton Community Hall's Most Valuable People project, the 2025 Babysitter Certification Course and “Home Alone + First Aid” workshop by Kidproofpei will be hosted in August, provided that at least ten participants register. Most of the cost will be covered by a grant from PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being. Instructor Arlene is available on August 13 and 27 (Wednesdays) and August 30 (Saturday). Please email Peggy at MiltonMVPs@gmail.com by July 31 to indicate the workshop in which you wish to enroll your child and your preferred dates. While "all three days" is the ideal response, we understand that each family has its own schedule, and the Hall will work to accommodate as many families as possible.

NEW -Tuesday, August 19, from 5-6:30. The St. John’s Anglican Church hosts its annual Blueberry Social at the Milton Community Hall. Cost for the social, which includes sandwiches and blueberry desserts, is $15 for adults and $6 for those under 12 at the door.  Wheelchair accessible.

Garden Work Times – Join Ryan in the community garden (opposite the Milton Community Hall) on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.

Radon – The municipality has just signed up for a campaign to happen in the fall of 2025, where we will have 100 radon detectors for residents to put in their homes for 100 

days and then be sent off for results to be obtained (and emailed directly and confidentially back to residents). More information and registration details will follow – but if you want to be sure to get your name on the list, please email admin@miltonvalepark.com.
