Storyteller Marion Reid and singer songwriter John MacAllar will be sharing the stage at the Milton Community Hall on Friday, June 6, 2014 for the sixth of a year-long series of shows comprising 2014 Minutes of Story and Song. Funded, in part, by the PEI 2014 Fund, these shows hosted by the Community of Miltonvale Park celebrate the Island and its musicians and stories.
Marion Reid, CM OPEI is a former Canadian politician, the first female Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and was the first female Lieutenant Governor of PEI. She entered politics after more than 20 years of teaching. The mother of eight, Mrs. Reid is well known as an enthusiastic, active community worker who has a variety of interests and a practical streak a mile wide.
John MacAllar has been writing songs for most of his adult life.  The styles are varied from Rock, Pop, Country, Blues, Folk and the themes are personal, nostalgic, and reflective of experiences and perspectives of life from his childhood.  "Never Let Go of the Kid" teenage years "Times Have Changed" to the great Canadian pastime of hockey and it's parallels to life "On The Ice".  As a solo artist performing festivals John sings folk songs about P.E.I., of historical and maritime life as he sees it, from the demise of the P.E.I. railroad, the plight of the farmer, to dandelions in June.
Admission is $10 and tickets will be available at the door on June 6, or can be reserved by contacting Miltonvale Park at (902) 368-3090 or miltonvalepark.com. The price includes a light lunch, including biscuits and PEI Preserve Company jam. The Milton Community Hall is located at 7 New Glasgow Road –Rte. 224 in North Milton.
